THONNURU DAM

HELLO GUYS....

I hope all are doing good . I am Ram Dhiraj baniya . today I shared a my trip experience on Thannur dam ( Thonnur lake) . Thonnur lake is located in Pandavapura taluk, Mandya district ,Karnataka.

According to the explanation of site engineer, we knew that this amazing historical lake is spread over an area of 2150 acres . This man - made water barage was built across yadavandai /river between two rocky hills With its storage capacity exceeding 470 TMC per year. This dam was made 1000 years ago.

This dam provides irrigation facilities and pure drinking water for around 50 villages. This dam has been built by using rocks.

It is a very beautiful place with its view of lake and surrounding nature and fact said that this one of the oldest dam of karnataka. this lake has historical back ground , this dam is constructed after saint sri ramaujanacharya come to here from srirangam . it has myth also about golden temple beneath this lake which is gaurding by silver snake and any kind of disease is cured once we take bath in this lake.

Near to this lake historical temples also located . It is good place for one day trip with friends and families . swimming is strictly prohibited here and we can also enjoy on the other side bank which is shown in given photo...

talking about its distance , it is 36 km away from mandya , 40 km from mysuru and 135 km away from bengaluru....
